This is one of the shortest but amply rewarding treks in the Annapurna region in the Himalayas. The trek commences at Nayapul which is about an hour’s drive from Pokhara. It is somewhat demanding due to the steep 1750m climb from Birethanti to Ghorepani. This climb is however broken into two stages – Birethanti to Hille and Hille to Ghorepani. The second stage involves climbing a seemingly unending stair-case from Tikedhunga to Ulleri that is said to have over 3300 steps! The next stop is Ghorepani, a village which was until recently a watering stop for mule caravans that carried luggage from Pokhara to Jomson.
Poon Hill is about an hour’s climb from Ghorepani. It is best to reach Poon Hill early-morning in order to catch the sunrise. The spectacular panoramic view from Poon Hill stretches from Dhaulagiri to the Annapurna peaks to Himchuli and Tarke Kang.
One can return back to Ghorepani, trek onwards to Hille and then drive back to Pokhara the same day.
