Nag Tibba or Serpent’s peak is just a short hop from touristy Mussorie but eons away from civilization. Nag Tibba peak is the the highest point in the lesser Himalayas, just short of 10,000ft. Situated in a dense forest, Nag Tibba peak offers excellent views of Mussorie, Vikashnagar, and several Himalayan peaks including Kedarnath peak, the Gangotri group of peaks, Chanabang etc. The range owes its name to a famous Nag Devta (snake god) temple at the Nag Tibba base camp.

The trek to the peak is easy enough to be done by a beginner and short enough to be done even over a weekend, if starting from Delhi. The starting point for the trek is Pantwari, a 3 hour drive from Mussorie. From Pantwari, the first day’s camp site is just a 6km walk and should take about 3 hours. The next day, trek up to Nag Tibba base (2 hours) where an ancient Nag Devta temple is located. After a short break, trek up to the Nag Tibba peak (1.5 hours climb) and enjoy unhindered views of the Garhwal range of the Himalayas. Return to the Nag Tibba base and camp for the night.

On the final day, the enthusiastic, energetic folks can do another trip to the peak to catch the sunrise. After breakfast, trek down to Oonthud village on the south side of Nag Tibba. Drive back to Dehradun and onwards to Delhi or spend an extra day at Landour, near Mussorie.
