Wander through the charming Angami village of Jakhama, witness the region’s history at the World War II Memorial and the impressive Kohima Cathedral. Explore India’s first green village and do a trip to picturesque Phek district. Lace up your boots for a scenic hike to Dzukou Valley, where rolling meadows and misty hills await. A perfect blend of culture, nature, and adventure — this short escape captures the very soul of Nagaland.

Itinerary

  • Day 1Arrive in Dimapur | Drive to Jakhama: 88 km - 2.5 hour | Hornbill Festival

    Drive from Dimapur airport to Jakhama, a scenic 2.5-hour journey.

  • Day 2Kohima - Khonoma Exploration

    After breakfast, drive to Kohima and visit the local wet market for a glimpse into everyday Naga life (1 hour). Continue to Khonoma, India’s first Green Village, for a guided village walk exploring its lanes, terraces, and conservation story (2 hours). After lunch, return to Kohima to visit the iconic hilltop cathedral, before driving back to Jakhama by dinner time

  • Day 3Dzouku Valley Trek | 10 km, 6 to 7 hours

    Post breakfast, head to neighbouring Viswema village which is the starting point of the trek to Dzouku Valley. Climb to Dzouku Valley Guesthouse through forests and high ridges to reach misty meadows and endless horizons — a day filled with raw mountain beauty and pure serenity. Continue down to the stream in the valley and return to the guesthouse at 2600 m. Overnight in tents.

  • Day 4Return from Dzouku Valley | 6 km, 4 to 5 hours

    On the return leg, take the route to Jakhama village – a 6 km, short but steep descent through a dense forest.

  • Day 5Pfutsero - Kapmodzu Excursion

    After an early breakfast, drive from Jakhama to Pfutsero (approx. 55–60 km | 2.5–3 hrs), Nagaland’s highest town. Take a short walk through the town and nearby viewpoints, soaking in the highland landscapes and local life. Continue to Kapamodzü village (approx. 12–15 km | 45 mins) for a guided village walk exploring traditional Angami homes, stone paths, and community spaces. Enjoy lunch before beginning the return drive to Jakhama, arriving by early evening.

  • Day 6Jakhama to Dimapur - 2.5 hour drive | Flight back to your city

    The trip concludes with a drop-off at Dimapur airport (2.5 hour drive) in the morning.

FAQ

Do I need a permit for entering Arunachal and Nagaland?

Indian citizens are also expected to apply for an ILP (Inner Line Permit) for entering  Nagaland. You can apply for these online.

Foreign national will require a Protected/Restricted Area permit which can be applied online.

What kind of accommodations are provided during the trip?

It will be in a comfortable guesthouse or homestay in Jakhama. Expect neat and clean rooms and modern attached toilets.

What temperatures can we expect during the winter months?

The temperatures one can expect are a max of 23 to 26 and a min of 11 to 14 deg Celsius in and around Kohima. Dzouku valley will be slightly colder.

Is water safe to drink in these places?

Filtered water will be provided during the trek. You can also carry personal water purifiers (Aquaguard and LifeStraw are two popular brands available online), or water purification tablets.

Do we get mobile connectivity during the trek?

Deban, Horbill, Firmbase and Imbiong do not have any mobile or broadband connectivity.

What are the things to do if we want to spend more time in Nagaland at the end of the trip?

One can do an excursion to Khonoma, an Angami village and Dzuleke valley. Excursions to Mokochung and Longwa, the land of the last of the headhunters can also be arranged.
