Itinerary

  • Day 1Kathgodam - Hartola (70 km, 2.5 hour drive), Satpuri temple hike (3.5 km, 2 hours)

Reach Kathgodam by noon and let the road carry you up into the hills near Mukteshwar. At Hartola, check in at Tranquil Peaks Heritage Homestay, a heritage home with astounding views, set among an orchard of plums, peaches, apples, apricots and pears.

After lunch, stretch your legs on a hike to Satpuri temple. The trail follows the road up to Satpuri village, and beyond it you bear left up to a small Shiva temple. Wander about half a kilometre further into the thick forest, then retrace your steps to Tranquil Peaks as the evening settles in.

  • Day 2Maheshwar Farm viewpoint hike (5 km, 2.5 hours) and Devi Top and Hartola temple circuit (3.5 km, 2.5 hours)

The views are best early, so set off at first light through thick rhododendron and oak forest beyond Satpuri village, to a viewpoint beyond Maheshwar Farm. Come back to a hearty breakfast and a slow, unhurried morning.

After lunch, head out again to Devi Top. The trail starts from the Shani temple at the edge of the village. On the way back, take a different route that brings you to the Shiva temple, the deity that gave Hartola its name, before returning to Tranquil Peaks.

  • Day 3Hartola - Kathgodam (70 km, 2 hour-drive)

Check out, say your goodbyes to the orchards and the hills, and drive down to Kathgodam, arriving around 2 pm.
